6-year Reunion (by invite only)

So we went dark over the weekend because the afore mentioned guest did in fact arrive, 8 days late. While the arrival was not anywhere near Noon, that’s ok. I had other things to pick up at noon on Friday.

Cara arrived around 9pm cutting short my time with my new shiny friend, but the shiny friend really has a lot more patience so we took off to Woodfire Grill. WC was good. There will be more on the restaurant in the review, but suffice to say that it was a dark tucked away corner with a lot of good cheese, roasted fish and uncharacteristically smooth conversation. Just goes to show, if you want normal human interaction with me all you need is a half-decade of practice. My ability to come up with the right restaurant is mirrored by my ability to pick “A quiet bar to keep talking.” (To be clear: Mirrors reverse things.) After wandering around the Va-Highlands for a while I hit upon the idea of Caf? Intermezzo. The service was slow, but they stayed open late and it worked out pretty well. Thus ended the first of 2 very late nights.

The late nights were mostly due to the fact that Cara had been working the dead crew at TGH. So for that reason, and the remnants of gentility I have not been able to shake off yet the Aero felt by backside for the first time. It’s ok. It would be a lot better if I didn’t exceed it’s dimensions in every plane.

Day two (saturday) was supposed to be a morning trip to the ABG to see the new Chihuly exhibit, but a combination of sleeping till the afternoon and the rain nixed that. Instead we gathered some ingredients from Whole Foods and went to see Troy. We stopped off at Wolfgang Puck Caf? first and spent some time going over travel books at the Peachtree Borders for her trip to Europe later in the week which I repeatedly had to refuse. Well, she read travel books; I read about how to hack my TiVo.

I’ll review Troy later but for now I’ll just say we all liked it, she a lot more than I. Dinner was a zucchini and squash pancake that was supposed to resemble a latke, but I didn’t drain the vegetables enough and I needed to make a more pancake-y batter to keep it together. that sat in a tomato-habenero sauce. The Entree was chicken cooked in a apricot and Grand Mariner sauce. There is some left from each. Feel free to to try to get to them before me.

We spent last night until 6:30a talking, griping, venting, reminiscing, supporting and wrestling for a yearbook. She was planning to leave early, but the sun had jumped the shark by the time she left for Tampa and points beyond. I’ve been promised a postcard from Norway.
